I did watch this news from TV. From the picture he provided, seems he's on the trail to the falls then lost in wilderness. California is very dry this year (no rain for more than a month so far - so not much snow covering mountain tops), as well as unseasonal warm in the beginning of February (up to mid 80℉ in SF bay area & upper 60℉ in Yosemite). However, it is freezing cold this 2 weeks, below freezing at night in some SF bay area cities. You can imagine how cold it is in Yosemite high elevation wilderness. If he stayed on trails, he shouldn't get lost. He may wonder around off trails or may make a wrong turn after dark. Glad that he's fine now.
He's not in the valley, so not near any of my current foot steps. He lost in the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir area. I am not sure how he got lost, 'cause at where he was found, there is only one trail in & out to the trailhead or car parking area. As I guess, he might wonder around off trails & lost in the dark after night fall ( which I seldom do).
