Agree with you and will take the same approach

One update - I think resoling an EG shoes will need around HK$3300 (including shipping). Waiting time 4 to 6 months.

Oh I found it. Today I went to 戲院里 and saw a shop named 陳富記.  There are many finished products hanging at the back. They said they can do re-soling. Many of the shoes they handled are Church's and John Lobb (ie Goodyear welted).

It will cost $430 and waiting time is around a week.

新鞋落地，必定前掌topy薄膠底，後"足爭"也是薄topy膠底。鞋會比較耐穿!

And my main argument for using Topy is also to add grip..

I have used 陳富記 for resoling GW shoes for many years - my first one cost around HK$200 only!  They do an OK job, but for higher end shoes such as EG, I would not recommend them as they stitch over the old welt without using the same holes - maybe their machine cannot stitch as many stitches per inch as those of the Northampton factories.  

有得補 in CWB claim that they would meticulously restitch using existing holes.  I have never tried them but they are at least 50% more expensive.  If you opt for JR soles it will be above HK$1k!
