I have a friend who uses RX100 and took some fantastic pictures with it.  It fits in a shirt pocket.  It's an absolutely great 1-inch camera!

What I have in mind is the full-frame NEX with Zeiss lenses.  Smaller than a DSLR (and probably a Leica M), it is powerful enough to do serious shooting but discreet enough to be regarded as a hobbyist camera.  I have the option of keeping a slice of my Leica-M lenses collection, so that when I get really nostalgic about bokeh and stuff I still have the option of using them from time to time.

As to medium format, for me, portability is a serious concern.  I'm still evaluating how much serious shooting I'll be doing and how much I am prepared to sacrifice for using a relatively difficult format.

As to the Monochrom, I must say I think, in the right hands, it must be one of the most fantastic cameras ever made.  It all depends on whether a person is interested in taking the sort of pictures in which the Monochrom excels.  If the person is interested in the sort of pictures, the Monochrom is a no-brainer.  My personal problem is that I can emulate that sort of pictures, but deep down I know it may not be my innate style.  The further I go in that direction, the more I realise that I would not excel in other people's game.  Maybe there is actually something else that I wish to represent in my pictures.

vincecharus c-hing, OP is you, the original poster, no other meaning at all.

Most of us sharing the same feeling about their equipment. Before coming to the state of love without hesitation, love and hesitation should be in place, just how and when that hesitation be excluded.

You do her no wrong in either way you mentioned. And if she got a fairy inside who knows you are doing so much reflections because of her, she should have no regret even you ditch her for awhile to make up mind. You are even more romantic and passionate than I thought.

Let's see how's it going.

they look very good!!! i think its quality is no worse than any DSLR with a regular zoom lens.

FF NEX with zeiss AF lenses would be an attractive choice, particularly for your need. But I bet full frame NEX-mount lenses (at least those made by Sony) will not be exactly tiny. And I also believe that the current Zeiss Touit lenses only cover APS-C sensors. That said, you have to wait at least a year or two in order to fully enjoy a complete outfit of NEX fullframe with Zeiss AF lenses. The wait can be a pain!

And you know, the monochrom is such a great camera that I think you will enjoy a lot using it. The question really is whether it suits your taste and purpose. After all, being "monochrom", honestly, limits the camera to certain aesthetic and narrative styles. For me, I don't really do photo-journalistic work. This sort of HCB style realism provoked by black and white narrative may not necessarily suit me. (Though I have to say, the monochrom probably is the best digital M to do such work, particularly with its high ISO capacity and fine details.)

On the other hand, there is another kind of black and white work which I'm interested in. And it is not photo-journalistic, namely, those done by Richard Avedon, and more recently, those by Hedi Slimane. http://www.hedislimane.com/diary/
I think MM would be such a great tool to take those kinds of pics.

And a side note: you may also consider Sigma DP2 Merrill if you want to get a taste of extreme quality in digital files (which can be a good companion with your monochrom too - color, AF, small, low profile). I think the Merrill is just like a digital back without the weight of being a digital back. It can give you some real fun!

初來咋到，看到在這邊鬼兄特別活躍，頻頻出片，但大多的又是兒子照，
雖然拍得不錯，MM也著實強橫，但相同人物，看多了，便覺有點悶.......

不知是否相看多了，有一天，突然想起自己老爸。記得小時候，老爸常帶著心愛的Nikon相機，
硬把我帶到不同地方拍照，什麼青松觀呀､西貢海下､各大遊樂場等等；
還像現在香港小姐選舉前奏一樣，遠涉外地名勝，製作認真，拍得天昏地暗，不亦樂乎，
他總對著那四方盒子，念念有詞，注意力總離不開那小小測光表......

現在人長大了，有自己家庭，美滿不美滿沒標準，不好說，日子總得要過。
男人有些時候，總會想想老爸是怎樣當老爸的。但對於我，父子嘛，跟他溝通較少，
觀察的多，以至第一手資料不足，學習不能，只能打打天才波，我行我素。

今天又是回老家的日子，把老爸的相機找出來，找些話題，問問老爸它的價錢呀，
有沒再用呀，還能用嗎？爸爸的反應冷淡，對曾經心愛的照相機，不帶一絲感情，
反對我和家人的瑣事，留意得較多。爸爸心愛的，是那相機嗎？
還是他，始終以自己的方式，來表達他對深愛的人的一種情懷。

今夜，又打開電腦，看看鬼兄和paulpaul兄的家庭照。
但今天，跟平常不一樣，我看得很小心，很仔細，

因我知道，我看到的，是人生......。

Medium format poses considerable challenge in composition with its own rewards.  I am still thinking about my own photographic needs before making any decision.

For my own dilemma, I think I have come to some conclusions for now.

Leica M digital, for my use, is the best compromise.  So far, it is the smallest and lightest full-frame.  Is has the best image quality for 35mm full-frame: M9 CCD is spectacular enough and nothing will beat the Monochrom.  Its prime lens collection is unsurpassed in giving full freedom of DOF in almost any situation.  The aesthetic power of the M-system is so staggering that it makes masterpieces of the drabbest of subjects such as handles in subways.  One has to deploy its phenomenal power with care and discretion, or else the intended subject would be completely overwhelmed by sidekicks such as bokeh and Leica glow, etc.

Medium format poses too many challenges for me for now, requiring far too much efforts in hauling equipment around, composition, lighting, and what not.  I'd wait until I have all the time and not a care about anything in the world before I go seriously into it.  I'll do it one day.

As for snap cameras, I remind myself that "one snap does not a picture make".  Even if I capture a scene in a split-second, other factors such as subject isolation, lighting, etc. have to be right before a scene can be turned into a picture.  A snap camera does not give me enough control to do things right.

Besides, I know the M-system quite well by now.  It takes me far too long to get familiarized with any other camera system.

So, my M9 and Monochrom and M-lenses are here to stay.    What a relief!    In due course, I might consider adding some lighting equipment to play with.  

I'm awfully sorry to bother all c-hings here with my internal musings.  All your sharings are both interesting and helpful!
