90/2AA is the perfect lens! Perfect MTF, corner-to-corner sharp, apochromatic and no fringing against backlighting, perfect color, perfect bokeh, no flare unless overexposed at more than 3 stops, you name it. At the same time, it is also very difficult to use at maximum effect because of (1) long focus throw; and (2) extremely shallow DOF at maximum aperture (think Noctilux). The combination of (1) and (2) makes it especially difficult to use to photograph subjects in motion, especially in low light. Also, because of its weight and relatively long focal length (for M lens), I seldom use it hand-held for anything slower than 1/180s. A lot of risks have to be taken with it in, for instance, theater photography. |
