Yes, it costs a lot of money to build Leitzpark, the production base in Portugal, and to develop the new generation of electronic bodies. All of which will position Leica well for the next decade and beyond.

Leica also paid Blackstone back the money they invested in the company about a decade ago.

Depends on what you believe and the time you live on, 100 years ago you don't even have electronic!
Holding a Leica can be like holding a state of art, however no brand or product survive when it comes to electronic world. The world has changed that's it. Until Leica can build an electronic camera that can last for decades, what you so call "value" has been changed.What about quality? Well photography never about gears quality, but when it does, it will be all about build quality where Leica still hold the place on his own. These days image quality cannot really tell between brands, and I guess we all want different things, or there are so much to create. You can't use M camera in formula one these days, cars are a lot faster compared to the 1965 bro.

When technology makes bigger and higher pixels sensor more possible at a much more reasonable price tag as well as a smaller and lighter body plus lens, the advantages of Leica in making better image quality have long gone already.
