First of all, I have to thank Mr. Kwan of Shriro HK for lending me the lens immediately right after the lens being returned from the media.
The following is not exactly a "lens test" in any scientific way. DXOmarks just released their test on the Otus, which gets the highest score ever. People who are interested in technical data may want to take a look at their test. My aim is more to have a real-life usage of the lens in order to show how the lens would perform as if I own the lens. Therefore, the pictures belowed were shot in RAW and have been post-processed in Lightroom, just like my usual workflow.
Even though this lens is rather big, the truth is: I don't feel it heavy when using it. With D800E, it is very nicely balanced. And the lens is very well-constructed. The focus is *super* silky smooth, with extremely long focusing distance. It will be very helpful for precise focusing and HD filming. But it may make focusing require longer time for snap shot, etc.
In terms of optical quality, I can hardly make any complaint on this lens - extremely sharp at f/1.4 and good micro-contrast. If one needs to be critical, it is a BIG lens.
I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
All the following pictures were taken by Nikon D800E handheld at f/1.4:
