IMHO, I am not a big fan of M240 yet, but to be fair, I don't think one shall judge a camera's dynamic range or quality of colour expression by its out of camera jpeg, the true dynamic range in fact lying under its RAW file for ANY high end digital cameras. After all, I will not buy any expensive digital cam for its jpeg quality.
Forgive me to say, all digital files are meant to be post processed in order to bring out its best. If you ask "so why the hack they still give you OOCJ?", well, simply because there are people either like fast food, no sense of picture quality, no time for PP, and of course, no skill/knowledge for doing good PP.
So testing its jpeg to judge one camera's ability, is not making any sense to me.
Oh, btw, if OP shoots RAW, the overexpose neon light area of the 1st picture, I am pretty sure he can bring the detail back by taming the highlights in LR easily, given M240 RAW ability has 3-4 stops shadows area and 1-2 stops highlights (unofficially and no reference based speaking).
Just my 2 cents. (I do thank OP for doing the job and sharing with us, it will be fun to me too, whether its a good reference is a question, but its just to me) |
